Home and HobbySolutions, Inc. Hobby Division
All of our own kits are designed and manufactured in Lancaster, South Carolina. Some kits are built on an as need basis. Others are kitted in small, specialty production runs. Others will be kept in stock on the shelf. Currently, we have three models available but more are on the way!
King Altair Short-Plus Kit: $130 Full Kit: $165
The King Altair was developed by Vic Husak after a
conversation with Ed Kazmirski. Both
gentlemen decided to design a large plane. Ed
designed the Simla, a design now lost to us,
(see SPA article in Model Aviation July 2007). Vic designed the
King Altair, which is a
variant of other Altair's he had already designed.
The article and design drawings were
featured in Radio Control Magazine in April
1967. Mr. Husak recently passed away in
March 2007. Before his death, Vic followed
the development of this kit with great interest and
wanted one of the first kits to personally inspect and
ensure its quality.

Up to this point in time, the King Altair has only
existed as a scratch built plane from Radio
Control Modeler magazine plans. The King
Altair kit contains the wood and drawing mod-
ifications for the builder to choose between building a
competition SPA or a classic VR/CS
version. If you're not sure what that means: you
can build it to look and perform like a modern
plane or you can build it to look just like it did in
1967.
The King Altair is a large plane, but extremely graceful
in flight. It has an 80" spa on the
vintage version. The competition version has
a 70" wingspan. The "King" can be powered
by .61 to .90 2C or .75 to 1.2 4C. The plane is
71" to 75" long depending on the version and
engine you use. The original version has 860 sq
inches of wing area. The drawings allow for
clipping the wings which will give a smaller area.
The original King Altair
weight came in
at 8.5 pounds with a SuperTiger .61. The Home and Hobby version
will come in around 7.25
to 8.0 pounds, depending on the version, and engine.
I have made quite a few internal changes
to the plane structure to take advantage of present day
materials and techniques.
There are two version of these laser cut kits, a
short plus kit, and a full kit. The short plus kit
consists of a canopy, top block, landing gear, drawing
copies, instructions (with pictures), ribs,
fuselage formers, firewall, landing gear doublers,
stabilizer ribs, balsa fuselage sides, fuselage
main doublers, hardwood landing gear blocks, torsions
blocks, fore top block, aft top block,
fuselage nose doublers, and fore bottom block. The
full kit includes everything in the short
plus kit plus all of the wood stock to complete the
wing, fuselage, stabilizer, and rudder.
The full kit also contains nylon pin hinges, front
landing gear, 5/32 collars, adjustable
control horns, steering
arm assembly, landing gear strap, and nylon wing bolts.
What you need to complete the kit: push rods, push
rod links, wheels, fuel tanks, fuel
tubing, engine, epoxy, CA, radio, covering, motor
mount, spinner and a prop.
The kit is designed for the intermediate or experienced
builder. As mentioned above, plans
and instructions are included, but the builder is
expected to possess knowledge of basic
building techniques.
The short plus kit is $130, and the
full kit is $165. Club prices: five or more kits $160 each,
10 or more kits
$155 each. All prices include shipping within the continental
United States
